Importance of Regular Three Month Office Recall

Daniel J. Zonan, D.D.S., F.A.G.D.

Importance of Regular Three Month Office Recall
Live Longer with Better Health

For many years we have been using the Phase Contrast Microscope to examine the oral bacteria and biofilm for the presence of periodontopathic (bad) bacteria.

By so doing, we can abort the destructive bacteria and their by- products to help decrease the state of inflammation. Most of us think of inflammation as a swelling. The fact is that most inflammation goes on invisibly and constantly at the cellular level. The body produces inflammatory chemicals that damage cell membranes that increase the risk of heart disease, chronic diseases and cancer.

The purpose of the regular three month Recall is to prevent early cavity and gum disease (periodontal). In the absence of regular care, inflammation of the gums (gingivitis) sets in. This could lead to periodontal involvement if not treated early.

Inflammation plays a large part in the development of arteriosclerotic disease especially heart disease and stroke and kidney disease in patients with diabetes mellitus. Biofilm (plaque and bacteria) laden with chronic infectious disease is constantly forming in the mouth. This is believed to be a link between dental caries and periodontal disease.

Unfortunately, the medical profession often overlooks the importance of the oral cavity examination. They fail to refer the patient back to their dentist for treatment.

In our office, dentistry partners with medicine for thorough patients' health and well being.

This has been the basis of our Non-surgical Treatment pioneered by my father, Dr. Jack Zonan, 50 years ago.

Teeth for a Lifetime.
